Step-by-step process of creating Anime songs in Japan
In the process of creating Japanese Anime songs, there are several people who are getting involved in the whole process, for example, music composers, people from music agency or recording label, songwriters who has a responsibility to create the lyrics of the song, arranger and sound engineer who are supposed to arrange and improve the backtrack.
The whole process of creating Japanese Anime songs begins with a selection of melodies. At an early stage, there are piles of demo songs that are created by music composers. These demo songs are not done yet, they usually have a temporary vocal track at this stage. Once the music composer finished mixing a temporary vocal track and backtrack, they submit it to their music agency or client where the screening process occurs to pick a demo from the pile.
Now it’s time to select the lyrics. Songwriters start to write lyrics and submit them to the music agency or client when it’s done and people from client pick the best lyrics from the pile.
As the song and the lyrics are chosen from the competition, now it’s time for arrangers to improve backtracking. What arrangers and sound engineers have to do is to record individual tracks such as vocals, melodies, lyrics, backtracks…etc.
Once individual tracks are recorded successfully, sound engineers mix them up by using a effect plugin. After mixing, it’s time to shift to mastering. Mastering is the process that your music goes through before distribution. The purpose of mastering is to polish your mix to prepare it for distribution on CD, Vinyl, or the Internet by using mastering software.
That is a process that music creators follow to create Anime songs in Japan in most cases. In the next section, I’ll introduce you to some software synthesizer recommendations that Japanese professional music composers use. I hope you’ll find the best one from the list.
Software Synthesizer Recommendations
I’ll present eight different types of synthesizers with an introduction of some outstanding features of each product.
FXpansion / BFD3
BFD3 requires professional skills in designing and managing sound levels and outputs and ensuring high-quality sound like sound engineers must have. If you are a beginner at creating, mixing, and arranging music this product might be a bit harder to utilize. However, It ensures you a dynamic high quality sound.
TOONTRACK / Superior Drummer3
Since the music production budget when creating Anime songs has declined in Japan recently, it’s a bit hard to record drums. This product is popular among those who want to add high-quality drum sounds to the music.
IK Multimedia / MODO BASS 2
This product is dedicated to those who want to add high-quality bass sound to the music, and to people who want to create their original songs without much experience playing instruments. And it doesn’t require you lots of storage on your pc.
Prominy / Hummingbird
With Hummingbird, you can play an amazingly realistic acoustic guitar performance and create guitar tracks very quickly. That is why there are many fans of this product in Japan since music composers in Japan are required to submit the demo song to their music agency and its deadline is usually tight in most cases.
Native Instruments / THE GRANDEUR
THE GRANDEUR has a rich, balanced-quality piano sound. It has a light playful sound so it goes well with any Japanese Anime song.
audiobro / LA Scoring Strings 3
LA Scoring String 3 is beloved not only by Anime song composers or J-pop composers but also background music composers, as well. It has a set of strings, so it is useful for those who are looking for string sounds.
Spitfire Audio / Chamber Strings
Chamber strings is quite popular among not only Anime songs or J-pop music composers but amateur music composers since it has a small string orchestra sound and is easy to use. Although it requires a lot of storage, it’s worth buying.

I have been passionate about learning different languages and playing music since I was a kid. I engaged in childhood education, music education, and second language acquisition research while I was studying at Yokohama National University as a graduate student. After graduation, I worked at an international preschool in Tokyo. Currently, I’m working as a bilingual teacher at an online English school and writing some articles about research on bilingual education. I post the cover songs videos of my favorite artists and my piano performances on Instagram and Youtube, so I’ll appreciate that if you go and check my posts. Thank you.
