Kamakura Travel with ChatGPT

Let’s explore Kamakura with ChatGPT with me!

Kamakura

Hello, I’m Melanie, vocal coach at Honey Music School. Today, I am going to introduce you to this traditional place to visit in Japan; Kamakura.

Last month, I walked around from Kamaura station to its main street called “Komachi-dori” with ChatGPT on my phone so that I was able to get personalized recommendations about street foods in Kamakura.

What is ChatGPT

First of all, let me explain what ChatGPT is for those who have never heard of it.

ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology. You can have human-like conversations if you put some questions to the chatbot and it’s still free to use.

People use ChatGPT to ask chatbots for help writing essays, create basic lists such as grocery and to-do lists, create their resumes, or even summarize the content. Even though it still has a data limitation, it’s getting addressed so it will be more convenient in the future.

Street food recommendations in Kamakura

As I started to walk around Komachi-dori, I asked ChatGPT for help showing the most popular street foods in Kamakura and it showed 7 different options which are;

  1. Sweet potato
  2. Grilled squid
  3. Takoyaki
  4. Imagawa-yaki
  5. Soft serve ice cream
  6. Croquette
  7. Dango

I wanted to crave something savory first, so I decided on having croquette.

Street food no.1: Croquette

Menchi

As I asked ChatGPT to show me a recommended croquette shop at Komachi-Dori, it told me that one of the highly recommended shops was called “Kamakura Croquette”.

This croquette shop has been in business for over 50 years according to the chatbot which is quite surprising.

It’s got mashed potatoes, minced pork, and some vegetables inside and it tasted so creamy and good. I truly recommend you to get some croquette if you visit Kamakura.

Street food no.2 : Dango

Dango

For the next street snack, I needed to be sure to try some dango in Kamakura and I just passed a cute tiny dango shop by chance. Although I wanted to try some, I was not sure which kind of flavor I should order. On top of that, I don’t really have a sweet tooth, so I just asked ChatGPT to help me decide what dango flavor I should try.

ChatGPT told me that one of the recommended dango flavors is Mitarashi-dango, which tastes a  bit sweet and salty at the same time. As I tasted it, I thought Mitarashi-dango is definitely for those who don’t like something sweet. Sweet, but not too sweet. And the texture was a bit sticky and creamy.

Street food no.3 : Soft serve ice cream

Maccha icecream

I’ve tried two savory street snacks so far, so I felt like having something sweet. I know that soft-serve ice cream was included in the personalized recommendation lists that ChatGPT created at the beginning so there is any other reason I should not try that.

I was feeling like having a soft-serve ice cream with a very traditional Japanese flavor so I asked ChatGPT which flavor is the most popular among tourists including foreigners. There are many options such as Matcha, Black sesame, Hojicha, and roasted green tea flavor. I’ve been into Matcha flavor recently, so I ordered Matcha soft-serve ice cream and it was 10/10.
