Hello! We are Honey Music School, an online school offering Japanese singing lessons, narration, and tourism-related language lessons.
Today, we would like to introduce Sushi ya Entenka, a sushi restaurant located in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture. Tochigi is an inland area of Japan, but the sushi at Entenka is truly delicious! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere that feels like both a sushi bar and an izakaya. If you visit Japan, we highly recommend stopping by!
What is Tochigi City?

Tochigi City is a historic town in Tochigi Prefecture. It is often called “the town of warehouses” because of the many traditional white-walled storehouses (kura) built during the Edo period. Walking along the Uzuma River, you can enjoy the view of these warehouses and feel the atmosphere of old Japan.
Recommended Menu Items
Sushi ya Entenka offers many dishes, not only sushi. Here are some of my personal favorites. All sushi rice is made with red vinegar, which has a rich flavor. Even the rice alone is tasty and lets you enjoy the quality of Japanese rice.
1.Tuna (Akami)

The first thing I always order is lean tuna (akami). A sushi restaurant that serves delicious tuna can be trusted.
2.Whelk (Tsubugai) and Squid

Next, I ordered whelk and squid. I didn’t like whelk when I was a child, but now as an adult, I love it. The crunchy texture is excellent. The squid is light and very easy to eat.
3.Simmered Tuna Eye

This is a simmered tuna eye, probably seasoned with soy sauce. It was so tasty that I drank more beer than usual! Entenka also serves many dishes beyond sushi.
4.Japanese Sake – “Maccho”

I tried a sake called Maccho, made by a brewery in Gunma Prefecture, which is next to Tochigi. The label looks unique, but the taste matched perfectly with Japanese food.
5.Shrimp

I ordered both sweet shrimp (amaebi) and large shrimp (ō-ebi). The large shrimp was beautifully prepared with rice packed under the tail. Personally, I preferred the sweet shrimp for its flavor.
6.Gari-Saba Roll

This is a sushi roll with pickled ginger (gari) and mackerel (saba). I really love this type of sushi roll. The sweet and sour ginger matches perfectly with the fish.
7.Salmon Roe (Ikura)

I also tried salmon roe. Do you have a chance to eat ikura in your country? It had a slightly salty flavor and was very enjoyable.
Eating sushi always makes me want to come back for more. Just writing this article makes me hungry again! If you visit Japan, please enjoy not only the culture but also the delicious food.
